The 1920's or The Roaring 20's, was a time where people were unrelenting and fueled with excitement. Consumers bought things on the installment plan so they could get things that were very expensive such as cars, washing machines, and refrigerators. The government also enforced prohibition, trying to stop people from drinking. This did not work, for bootleggers sold alcohol illegally and speakeasies were created. This caused a major increase in organized crime. Also, women gained more rights throughout this time such as the 19th amendment which allowed women to vote. politically, people were scared of communism, also known as the Red Scare. The 1920's left signs of trouble such as the continued suffering of farmers and factory workers. This time period mainly led to and was the initial cause of the Great Depression, or the fall of the stock market.
